The island ‘Yantadore’ where Lauren, Morgan, Shanghai and Zhen will live.

“Now, where did that shoe go?” Morgan pondered. She dug around everywhere in her daughter, Shanghai’s, bedroom. To no avail, she gave a sigh and dug around in Shanghai’s closet. From around the corner, she heard her five year old’s laughter.

“Shanghai.” Morgan called. “I can’t find your shoe. Do you know where it is?”

Shanghai laughed and shook her head. “I was just playing dollies. Maybe mommy has it.”

Morgan narrowed her eyes. “Come on, kiddo. Give it up. We need to pack for the big trip tomorrow.”

As usual, her five year old didn’t care and went about laughing and dancing around the bedroom. Morgan proceeded to look for new shoes in a hurry. She was stressing over the fact that they were moving to a whole new island that was desolate, unpredictable and dreary. The island had the best school for Shanghai though, so she spoke with her wife, Lauren and they decided it was the best thing to do.

“Mom, look!” Shanghai exclaimed.

Morgan turned to see little Shanghai holding a doll up in a neon green dress and a messy hairstyle. “Wow. She’s so beautiful.”

“Thanks!” Shanghai replied. “Her name is… Jenny!”

“Wow, ok.” Morgan dug around in her daughter’s closet. “Why the name, Jenny?”

Shanghai twirled the doll around in the sky, as if to make it fly. “I heard it on tv with mommy.”

Morgan moaned. “I told your mommy to stop letting you watch the news…”

As she said it, Lauren walked in and kissed Morgan on the cheek.

“How’s it going?” Lauren asked.

Morgan pressed her hand against her head in frustration. “Not good. I’ve been looking for Shanghai’s missing socks and shoes for an hour now! Not to mention, we haven’t put up the pots or the pans. And we have to move the couch and-”

Lauren placed her hands on Morgan’s cheeks. “Don’t worry. We will get all of this done in time. Let’s all just… take a break.”

The three girls left the bedroom and gathered in the living room as the sun went down. They all fell down unto the couch at the same time, which tickled Shanghai and made her laugh.

“Why are we moving schools, mommy?” Shanghai asked.

Lauren looked into Morgan, as though to find the right words to explain why they were moving.

“Um.” Lauren stopped to organize her thoughts for a moment. “
